There’s no better time to tackle those 2018 resolutions then now! Correct us if we’re wrong, but you probably committed to some form of weight loss/exercise/wellbeing/health goal for the next 365 days. Lacking motivation already? Don’t worry we might be too. We’re got a great lil’ list of five fun activities where you’ll break a sweat and burn some calories! Without even knowing it. Minimal effort for maximal return = DOUBLE WIN.

  • STAND UP PADDLEBOARDING

Stand Up Paddle boarding, also called SUP is a great way to cool down and cut the calories. It’s a low impact exercise, requiring a combo of strength and balance, making it a great core workout! It’s a fair challenge having to stay centred on the rocky waters. If you fall off – there’s no drama, refresh in the ocean before giving it another go.

If you’re feeling REALLY adventurous, you could even practice some yoga on the board. There’s a few places popping up around Australia where you can practise a headstand or vinyasa flow whilst afloat!

HOW MUCH? Book in for an hour, it’ll burn roughly 200 – 300 calories.

  • ROCKCLIMBING

When was the last time you had a spot of rock climbing? Probably back when you were a kid at a birthday party? Well it’s time to unleash your inner child and get back up there! Climbing isn’t often thought of as cardio, but ascending walls is a sure-fire way to pump up the heart rate – it’s a similar challenge to climbing stairs or jogging. Besides the cardio – climbing is a great challenge for your upper body strength, plus – it holds benefits to the brain. You’ll be developing problem solving skills and increase your spatial awareness.

HOW MUCH? It’ll burn roughly 600 calories an hour.

  • HAVE A BATH?

We’re not sure about this one, but we like the idea. A recent study out of Loughborough University found having a hot bath pulls a few positives! Researchers found that a bathing in the heat (40 ˚C) for an hour caused a 1 ˚C rise in core body temp. This inflammatory response caused a similar reaction to what one would achieve from a spot of exercise. When they crunched the numbers, it burnt the same amount of calories as a 30 minute walk. Netflix and Bath? Anyone?

HOW MUCH? Bathe for one hour at 40 ˚C and you’ll burn around 130 calories.

  • JUMP IN A KAYAK

If it’s a sunny day, there’s nothing better than a leisurely trip in the water. Hire a kayak (super cheap, like $15 an hour) and enjoy the surrounds! It can be peaceful and meditative or it can be totally exhilarating! It all depends on where and how you do it. Regardless of the spot you pick, you’ll be working the torso and building those biceps. You can hire kayaks for single or double. So either share the workload with a friend, or battle the rapids solo!

HOW MUCH? One hour will burn around 350 – 450 calories an hour.
